EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT A2
The above link contains all the information you might need for the second year of A-Level Media Studies. This information will, of course, be handed to you in hard copy and with all the really important facts rewritten clearly but this ensures everyone has access to the whole thing.
The Great Random Music Video Making Activity of Joy Part One
This is the individual piece. If you require members of staff to be photographed pretending to play, just let me know.
The rules:
1. You must use the track that was randomly generated for you. If you weren't in the lesson, a track has been randomly assigned to you. Look at the list below.
2. You have until June 19TH to complete both the storyboard and the animatic.
3. Your piece must bear no resemblance to any official music video for the given and as little resemblance as possible to any other track. BE ORIGINAL.
4. The must be at least two of the three music video styles utilised: narrative, performance, and/or conceptual.
5. There must be a link between the visuals and the lyrics. It does not have to be every single line represented literally, of course, but the must be a definite link between what we see and what we hear.
6. You must create a new band name, song title and album title for the piece which must appear at the start of the video.
For part one you must produce individually:
1) A detailed, shot-by-shot storyboard, complete with transitions, durations, shot types for the entirety of the track; then
2) Using photos, create a rough animated draft of your storyboard using any software you choose - for example PowerPoint and animation and the track, or Windows Movie Maker, or iMovie, or Final Cut Pro - for the whole duration of the track to present to the class. I do not anticipate allowing class time for this activity.
For (bad) example by me, done in two hours using Google image search only (which obviously doesn't do a great job and is for a target for you to far exceed) and Windows Movie Maker. You'll do vastly better.

The Great Random Music Video Making Activity of Joy Part Two
Part Two - in PAIRS (unless negotiated otherwise) - you must recreate SHOT FOR SHOT any one minute extract from this piece as accurately as possible. The minute can start anywhen from the start of the track, as long as it is a continuous minute of the original promo. That includes costumes. If you wish you may subvert it because...well...some of you are going to be in for a shock.A funny shock, but a shock nonetheless. If you've got something you don't think you can recreate exactly, get creative. How can you approximate it and keep it in the spirit? Remember, you don't have a budget! I am not after 100% accuracy, I'm after seeing how inventive you can be and how you approach the task.
This will require you to think carefully about how you'd do it and which part of the video you think you could recreate most successfully. Each has challenges and each has moments which can be done really effectively and quickly. It is up to you to identify where best to focus your efforts.
The rules:
1. You must use the track that was awarded to you in the bidding process. If you weren't in the lesson, a track has been randomly assigned to you / you have been assigned a pair.
2. You have until 26TH JUNE to completely shoot and edit in final draft the one minute extract.
3. Your piece must be as faithful a recreation shot for shot of any one minute extract of the original promo as possible.
4. Pairs will bid for 1st, 2nd and 3rd preferences to try and make everyone get one they fancy a go at. Like the London Mayoral elections but not. In the event of a tie I will ask for three reasons why you want to do this video using media terminology and what you think, specifically, the hardest thing will be and why. Best answer gets it. Judges decision is final. I am the judge.
A - OK GO - A MILLION WAYS - SARAH AND HANNAH

CAVEAT - Think about all the different ways you can recreate the white polystyrene balls. How will you do it? Is there some kind of post production technique you could use to recreate it? Sourcing a location might be hard but there are ways you can achieve it - if you can find a black wall that is brilliant. If not, can you find a brightly coloured wall and play with Chroma Keyer?

First!
ReplyDeleteBecause someone has to do it. Also this looks like several craploads of work. Sir, if you weren't so awesome, I would be tempted to go on one of those overdramatic teenage whines about it :P
It'll be fun. I believe it spelt c-a-r-t-loads by the way, young man.
ReplyDeleteScreenshot of a pupil calling me awesome as evidence for my next performance management review. Ta!
